One interesting new element being introduced with Rational Quality Manager is the notion of Test Lab Management.
The concept here is simple: One of the tedious tasks of automated test execution is making sure that you have a resource available to run your tests on. That resource could be a virtual machine or a physical PC. Not only that, you need to make sure the machine is properly configured to run your tests. Testers need a mechanism to ensure that resources are available, a mechanism to provision the tests to the machine and from a management/governance perspective – a way to measure utilization so you can ensure you are getting the most out of your assets.
That’s the basic concept with Rational Lab Manager, a component of Rational Quality Manager. Three simple functions:
